What you'll do:
As a Senior Hardware Electrical Design Engineer based in Taipei, you will immerse yourself in the end-to-end lifecycle of cutting-edge optical equipment designed for advanced networking environments. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve collaborating with talented professionals from various engineering backgrounds to conceptualise and refine high-performance products tailored for telecoms and data communications. You will leverage your deep understanding of high-speed digital transmission principles to select components judiciously and craft intricate schematic designs. By utilising sophisticated simulation tools like HFSS or ADS, you will ensure signal integrity throughout the design process. Your hands-on approach will see you leading board bring-up sessions—debugging systems meticulously—and conducting experiments that inform both current projects and future innovations. Documenting your findings thoroughly will be second nature as you help shape best practices within the team. Additionally, your input into manufacturing protocols will be invaluable in ensuring smooth transitions from prototype to mass production. - Develop, review, release, and provide ongoing support for advanced optical modules and sub-systems such as OTDR, OSC, OCM, ensuring they meet stringent industry standards.
- Collaborate closely with product marketing and cross-functional engineering teams—including optical, hardware, mechanical, software, and process engineers—to deliver robust products optimised for performance and manufacturability.
- Facilitate seamless transitions from initial architecture through new product introduction phases to full-scale volume production by applying your technical expertise.
- Recommend thoughtful solutions that address customer requirements related to performance, cost efficiency, scheduling, and reliability across diverse product lines.
- Select appropriate components, generate detailed schematic designs, create comprehensive PCB layout instructions, and coordinate with FPGA, software, mechanical, thermal, optical, and process teams to achieve optimal system integration.
- Perform circuit simulations for high-speed signals using industry-standard tools such as HFSS or ADS to ensure signal integrity and compliance with design specifications.
- Lead board bring-up activities by debugging electronic systems and validating their performance through rigorous experimentation and characterisation of components and subsystems.
- Document all aspects of design processes as well as experimental results to maintain transparency and facilitate future improvements or troubleshooting efforts.
- Contribute to the development of DVT (Design Verification Test), manufacturing assembly protocols, diagnostic procedures, test plans, qualification documentation, and provide technical guidance during manufacturing issue resolution.
- Engage with global teams on new product designs while supporting customer-facing functions such as FAE (Field Application Engineering) and QA (Quality Assurance) to resolve technical issues efficiently.
What you bring:
To excel as a Senior Hardware Electrical Design Engineer in this role you will bring substantial experience gained within the telecom or datacom industries—ideally spanning at least eight years—with a focus on high-speed board design. Your academic foundation should include a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering; an advanced degree would further distinguish your profile. You are adept at navigating complex electronic design environments using industry-standard tools such as OrCAD (with CIS) and Allegro for schematic capture and PCB layout respectively. Your expertise extends into circuit simulation where you utilise platforms like HFSS or ADS to pre-emptively address signal integrity concerns before physical prototyping begins. Beyond technical acumen you possess excellent interpersonal skills which enable you to thrive within collaborative settings involving diverse engineering disciplines. - Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering is required along with at least eight years of relevant experience within the telecom or datacom sectors or closely related fields.
- Demonstrated proficiency in designing high-speed boards with a strong grasp of digital transmission concepts and signal integrity challenges encountered in modern electronic systems.
- Extensive experience using electronic design automation tools such as OrCAD with CIS integration capabilities as well as Allegro for PCB layout tasks.
- Solid background in performing circuit simulations using platforms like HFSS or ADS to validate high-speed signal paths prior to fabrication.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams comprising optical engineers, hardware specialists, software developers, mechanical designers, thermal analysts, process engineers—and more—for holistic product development.
- Track record of successfully transitioning complex designs from architectural concept through new product introduction stages into reliable volume production environments.
- Experience generating comprehensive documentation covering schematic diagrams, experimental results from component characterisation studies as well as test protocols for manufacturing support purposes.
- Familiarity with developing DVT plans along with manufacturing assembly instructions; adept at diagnosing issues during production runs while offering practical solutions promptly.
- Comfortable engaging with global project teams on new product initiatives while also supporting technical queries raised by Field Application Engineers or Quality Assurance personnel.
