What you'll do:
As a Senior Battery Cell and Process Development Engineer based in Taipei, you will play a crucial role in advancing lithium-ion battery technology for stationary energy storage applications. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve hands-on process development—optimising manufacturing workflows for cell assembly, module integration, DC block configuration—and ensuring seamless technology transfer from lab-scale innovations to commercial production. You will collaborate extensively with material suppliers, equipment vendors, testing laboratories, engineering consultants across Asia while acting as the key interface between global product teams. Success in this role requires you to evaluate material properties rigorously; analyse complex data sets; support certification processes; conduct supplier audits; implement tailored validation strategies; investigate root causes of performance issues; maintain robust documentation; facilitate cross-functional communication; and provide actionable recommendations that drive quality improvements. Your ability to translate laboratory breakthroughs into scalable manufacturing operations will directly contribute to strengthening energy independence and enabling the next era of electrification.
- Develop, optimise, validate, and scale lithium-ion battery cell, module, and DC block manufacturing processes to ensure high yield, quality, safety, and cost efficiency.
- Define process parameters and manufacturing specifications that enhance product reliability while supporting continuous improvement initiatives across production lines.
- Plan and execute process development activities including pilot builds, studies, validation tasks, and technology transfer from laboratory or supplier environments into full-scale production.
- Evaluate materials and methods to improve performance, manufacturability, and long-term reliability of battery cells through rigorous technical assessments.
- Analyse manufacturing data to identify process improvements, resolve technical issues promptly, and support new product introduction (NPI) as well as process qualification efforts.
- Provide expert guidance for UL certifications by supporting product development teams with technical advice on design changes such as tolerance relief proposals or defect risk analysis.
- Conduct supplier audits, factory visits, production trials, sampling activities, prototype builds, and readiness assessments to qualify battery materials and manufacturing partners.
- Implement customised processes from remote validation centres (RVC) into local work environments to enhance overall efficiency and effectiveness of validation business operations.
- Investigate manufacturing or field-performance issues using structured root-cause analysis techniques; develop comprehensive process documentation including FMEAs, control plans, and standards.
- Serve as a technical liaison between U.S.-based engineering teams and Asia-based suppliers; prepare detailed reports, recommendations, presentations for management; collaborate with R&D teams on test failure analysis.
What you bring:
To excel as a Senior Battery Cell and Process Development Engineer you will bring proven expertise in lithium-ion battery development combined with practical experience in high-volume cell manufacturing. Your background should include advanced knowledge of electrochemical principles governing cell behaviour along with hands-on skills in electrode production or assembly techniques. You must demonstrate proficiency analysing complex data sets using statistical tools—designing experiments that inform process optimisation—and documenting quality systems comprehensively. Your interpersonal abilities will enable you to collaborate effectively across cultures: engaging suppliers throughout Asia while liaising with U.S.-based engineering teams. Professional fluency in both Mandarin Chinese and English is essential for preparing clear reports or conducting nuanced technical discussions. Ideally you have worked directly with major Asian battery manufacturers—supported factory launches or production ramps—and possess familiarity with diverse cell formats (prismatic/pouch/cylindrical/large-format), module packs/BMS/EMS configurations. Experience qualifying materials suppliers—managing change control—or supporting certification efforts (UL/reliability/safety) will further distinguish your candidacy.
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Electrochemistry, Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering—or related technical discipline—with at least eight years’ relevant experience in lithium-ion battery development or cell manufacturing.
- Practical hands-on experience with one or more battery cell manufacturing processes such as electrode production, cell assembly, electrolyte filling, formation cycles, aging protocols or cell testing methodologies.
- Deep understanding of lithium-ion cell components—including materials selection—electrochemical principles governing performance metrics—process parameters—and manufacturing controls required for reliable operation.
- Demonstrated track record developing optimised processes for battery manufacturing: transferring laboratory findings into scalable production environments; validating new technologies; improving yield rates; resolving technical challenges efficiently.
- Experience evaluating data sets—test results—process capability analyses—yield statistics—and product performance indicators using structured experimentation techniques like statistical analysis or design of experiments (DOE).
- Familiarity with process FMEA (Failure Mode Effects Analysis), control plan creation—root-cause analysis methods—and quality system documentation within high-volume manufacturing contexts.
- Direct exposure working with battery material suppliers—cell manufacturers—equipment vendors—testing labs—or technical consultants throughout Asia region; ability to interpret technical specifications accurately.
- Professional fluency in Mandarin Chinese and English—including capacity for conducting technical discussions—preparing written reports—and facilitating cross-border communication between global teams.
- Preferred: Experience collaborating with leading China-headquartered battery manufacturers (either mainland China or affiliated operations); supporting greenfield/brownfield factory launches; managing production-line ramp-ups; transferring designs/processes internationally.
- Preferred: Knowledge of prismatic/pouch/cylindrical/large-format cells—BMS/EMS/AC/DC block configurations—module pack assembly practices used by major Asian producers; familiarity with safety testing protocols (UL certifications), abuse/reliability testing standards; lean manufacturing/Six Sigma/project-management certification.
