What you'll do:

As a Thermal Process Engineer based in Taichung, you will immerse yourself in the design and optimisation of complex thermal processes that underpin the production of advanced materials. Your day-to-day activities will involve conducting rigorous experiments for process improvement while applying statistical analysis to resolve technical challenges efficiently. You will define essential parameters for each process stage to ensure high-quality results are achieved consistently. By validating processes through detailed studies and overseeing final inspections, you will help maintain stringent customer specifications. A key aspect of your role involves transferring technology across divisions by creating thorough training materials and documentation systems. You will also provide hands-on support to technicians and operators while collaborating with global teams on new product developments. Frequent travel within Asia and the USA will allow you to engage directly with colleagues at various sites for ongoing projects. Success in this role requires a commitment to teamwork, attention to detail in quality control measures, proactive communication skills for reporting findings, and a passion for continuous learning within an inclusive environment.

  • Design, develop, and optimise a wide range of thermal processes including heat treatment, melting, forming, firing, sintering, annealing, tempering, brazing, curing, and stress relieving to enhance advanced materials and products.
  • Conduct process optimisation experiments and manufacturing studies using statistical analysis to identify process upsets and root causes before implementing effective solutions.
  • Define critical process parameters such as temperature profiles, time cycles, atmospheres, and cooling rates to ensure consistent quality outcomes.
  • Lead process validation, qualification, and capability studies (IQ/OQ/PQ, Cp/Cpk) to guarantee robust manufacturing standards are met.
  • Oversee final product engineering studies including inspection, data collection, and quality controls to meet customer specifications.
  • Transfer technology seamlessly to divisions and manufacturing plants by developing comprehensive training programmes and documentation systems such as Standard Operating Procedures and Process Set-points.
  • Support and train technicians and operators on best practices in thermal and material processes to foster skill development across the team.
  • Travel periodically within Asia and the USA to collaborate with company sites and vendors for process development of new products or operational improvements.
  • Work collaboratively with research, development, and manufacturing teams on new processes and product introductions to drive continuous improvement.

What you bring:

The ideal candidate for the Thermal Process Engineer position brings proven academic credentials alongside practical experience gained from relevant roles in manufacturing environments. Your background should include advanced study in materials science or engineering disciplines coupled with hands-on involvement in thermal processing operations. You possess strong analytical abilities that enable you to interpret experimental data accurately while identifying root causes behind process upsets. Your familiarity with quality assurance procedures ensures reliable outcomes during product inspections. Experience collaborating across organisational boundaries—especially within international contexts—demonstrates your adaptability when working with diverse teams. You are comfortable presenting technical information clearly both verbally and in writing; your documentation skills support effective knowledge transfer throughout the organisation. Your willingness to learn new technologies quickly reflects your commitment to personal growth within a supportive workplace culture. By combining these attributes with an empathetic approach towards training others on best practices in thermal processing techniques, you contribute positively towards communal success.

  • Master's or Ph.D. degree in Materials Science, Thermal Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field is required for this position.
  • 2-3 years of experience in thermal process engineering or materials processing within manufacturing environments is highly desirable.
  • 1-3 years of practical exposure to thermodynamics, heat transfer principles, materials behaviour at temperature or phase diagrams is expected.
  • Hands-on experience operating thermal processing equipment such as kilns, furnaces or advanced thermal analysis tools is essential.
  • Proficiency in analytical techniques including DOE (Design of Experiments), statistical analysis methods and process modelling is necessary.
  • Basic understanding of quality assurance protocols and process reliability standards in manufacturing settings is important.
  • Ability to efficiently analyse data sets to provide actionable solutions for technical problems is valued.
  • Experience working on international or multi-cultural manufacturing-based projects is considered advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Familiarity with technical fundamentals related to process engineering and materials science supports success in this role.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required for accurate experiment recording; creating detailed documents; presenting findings within teams; reporting out results; communicating effectively across global time zones.
