Sr. Staff MBIST Diagnostics Engineer

Save job

A global technology leader seeks an experienced MBIST Diagnostics Engineer to drive innovation in memory diagnostics and repair for advanced SoC designs and memory architectures. Lead efforts in SRAM MBIST, failure analysis, and 3DIC workflows while collaborating with cross-functional teams across Design, Silicon Validation, Product Engineering, and more.

Salary: Competitive and depends on the experience

Location: Hsinchu

Keywords: collaborative, diagnostics, memory repair, yield learning, supportive leadership, inclusive, knowledgeable, dependable, training opportunities, flexible working opportunities

What you'll do:

As an MBIST Diagnostics Engineer you will be responsible for leading the development of robust diagnostic flows that span the entire lifecycle of memory test—from initial diagnosis through repair validation to post-silicon debug. Your day-to-day activities will involve collaborating with cross-functional teams to architect scalable solutions for embedded memories in advanced SoCs. You will analyse complex fail logs from automated test equipment (ATE), develop sophisticated algorithms for failure signature analysis and redundancy management, implement automation tools for workflow optimisation using scripting languages like Python or Perl, and establish reusable methodologies that can be adopted across multiple products. By mentoring fellow engineers and influencing design decisions early in the product lifecycle you will help shape future strategies for memory-test technologies while accelerating yield learning and improving overall product quality. Success in this role requires a deep understanding of MBIST architecture combined with strong analytical skills applied to real-world silicon challenges.

  • Lead comprehensive SRAM MBIST diagnosis activities across intricate SoC designs by analysing ATE datalogs, fail logs, MBIST fail signatures, repair data, and silicon debug results to isolate failures and determine root causes.
  • Develop and refine advanced memory diagnostic methodologies including redundancy analysis, BIRA/BISR flows, ECC architectures, self-repair techniques, and post-repair validation processes to ensure optimal performance.
  • Architect innovative MBIST diagnostic solutions for embedded memories such as 3DIC, 2.5D stacked memory, HBM, DRAM, and chiplet-based architectures while defining controller requirements and error logging mechanisms.
  • Evaluate MBIST diagnostic strategies based on memory architecture nuances, fault models, repair capabilities, and silicon debug needs to optimise overall system reliability.
  • Influence design-for-diagnostics hooks by establishing observability requirements and repair access paths during product development phases to enhance debug infrastructure.
  • Establish reusable memory diagnostics methodologies adopted across multiple products and technology generations to standardise best practices within the organisation.
  • Develop end-to-end 3DIC memory diagnostics flows covering wafer test procedures through known-good-die validation up to stack/package testing and system-level validation.
  • Correlate manufacturing test results with silicon behaviour by performing fault localisation and root-cause analysis while supporting silicon bring-up activities.
  • Create automation frameworks using Python, Perl or TCL scripting languages for fail-log parsing, MBIST signature analysis, repair classification and diagnostic reporting.
  • Mentor engineers across product teams on memory diagnostics methodology while providing technical leadership in MBIST diagnostics initiatives.

What you bring:

The ideal candidate for the MBIST Diagnostics Engineer position brings extensive experience in developing diagnostic solutions for complex SoC designs involving advanced memory architectures. Your proven ability to lead technical initiatives without direct authority highlights your collaborative approach while mentoring others demonstrates your commitment to communal growth. You possess deep expertise in SRAM MBIST diagnosis coupled with strong analytical skills applied through industry-standard EDA tools such as Siemens Tessent MemoryBIST or Synopsys SMS. Your proficiency in scripting languages enables you to automate workflows efficiently while your familiarity with data analytics/machine-learning applications supports yield optimisation efforts. Experience working across multiple products/technology generations showcases your adaptability; meanwhile your excellent communication skills foster productive relationships within global teams. By combining technical acumen with interpersonal sensitivity you contribute positively both as a subject matter expert and as a dependable team member.

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related field is required for foundational knowledge in digital systems.
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience in MBIST diagnostics including memory repair methodologies, silicon validation or yield engineering is essential for technical leadership.
  • Expertise in SRAM MBIST diagnosis encompassing fail signature analysis, failure classification techniques and advanced repair flows is critical for success.
  • Strong familiarity with memory fault models such as bitmap analysis along with redundancy management (BIRA/BISR), ECC/self-repair architectures and post-repair validation processes is necessary.
  • Experience developing scalable diagnostic methodologies across various memory compilers/types/products/silicon generations demonstrates adaptability.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard EDA tools like Siemens Tessent MemoryBIST or Synopsys SMS ensures effective implementation of diagnostic solutions.
  • Programming skills in Python/Perl/TCL or equivalent scripting languages are vital for building automation frameworks supporting workflow efficiency.
  • Experience applying data analytics/statistical/machine-learning-assisted techniques enhances diagnostic accuracy/yield optimisation capabilities.
  • Proven track record of mentoring engineers/establishing best practices shows commitment to communal growth within technical teams.
  • Strong communication/collaboration skills enable effective interaction with global cross-functional partners.
