Business Development Manager
A leading global payments provider is seeking a Business Development Manager to join their Taipei-based team, focusing on expanding the reach of credit card payment solutions among SME retailers. This is an exciting opportunity for you to play a pivotal role in driving business growth by connecting with new merchants and supporting them through every step of the onboarding journey.
What you'll do:
As a Business Development Manager based in Taipei, you will be at the forefront of expanding access to innovative credit card payment solutions for small- and medium-sized retailers. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve engaging with potential merchants through various channels—whether following up on referrals or initiating contact yourself—and guiding them through every stage of the onboarding process. You will prepare compelling proposals tailored to each merchant’s needs while working collaboratively with regional colleagues when required. Success in this role means not only meeting ambitious sales targets but also ensuring that every new merchant feels supported from their first interaction onwards. By maintaining strong relationships internally and externally, you will help foster a network of satisfied clients who trust in your expertise. Your commitment to continuous learning will keep you ahead in understanding evolving products so you can confidently present solutions that add value for every customer.
- Work closely with the manager and team leader to achieve assigned sales targets for both revenue generation and new merchant recruitment within the SME segment.
- Actively identify, approach, and recruit new merchants by leveraging leads from bank and non-bank referral partners, hotline enquiries, existing customers, and proactive outreach such as cold calling.
- Manage the full onboarding and deployment process for newly acquired merchants, ensuring a seamless transition from initial contact through to successful activation of payment services.
- Prepare detailed proposals and pricing packages for interested merchants within tight submission timelines, often coordinating with regional teams across multiple Asia-Pacific countries.
- Provide ongoing account management support for newly recruited merchants by collaborating with various internal support functions to address their needs and ensure satisfaction.
- Continuously develop product knowledge and selling skills to independently close leads and deliver tailored solutions that meet merchant requirements.
- Maintain accurate records of sales activities, pipeline progress, and merchant feedback using internal systems to support reporting and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Participate in regular team meetings, training sessions, and knowledge-sharing activities to stay updated on industry trends, product enhancements, and best practices.
- Build positive relationships with referral partners and internal stakeholders to maximise collaboration opportunities and drive mutual success.
What you bring:
To excel as a Business Development Manager in this dynamic environment, you will bring proven experience working within financial services or merchant acquisition roles—ideally involving card acceptance or payment solutions. Your ability to communicate fluently across Cantonese, English, and Mandarin allows you to engage effectively with a broad spectrum of clients. You possess exceptional interpersonal skills that enable you to build rapport quickly during cold calls or face-to-face meetings. Your attention to detail ensures that proposals are meticulously prepared even under tight deadlines. A natural collaborator at heart, you thrive when working alongside others towards shared goals while managing multiple priorities efficiently. Your enthusiasm for learning keeps you adaptable amid changing market conditions; meanwhile, your considerate approach ensures every merchant feels valued throughout their journey. Above all else, your dependability makes you a trusted partner both internally among colleagues and externally among clients.
- Demonstrated experience or knowledge of card acceptance processes and merchant services within the financial sector is highly desirable for this position.
- Previous exposure to selling financial services or related products would be considered an advantage when applying for this role.
- Proven ability in cold calling techniques as well as door-to-door selling methods combined with excellent interpersonal communication skills is essential.
- Strong business writing capabilities are required in order to prepare clear proposals and correspondence for prospective clients.
- Confidence in presenting information persuasively to customers both face-to-face and virtually is important for building trust quickly.
- Fluency in Cantonese, English, and Mandarin is necessary due to the diverse client base served by this organisation.
- A self-motivated attitude coupled with maturity enables effective handling of multiple tasks simultaneously while remaining calm under pressure.
- A willingness to learn continuously along with an outgoing personality helps foster positive connections with both clients and colleagues alike.
