BMC Firmware Code Reviewer
Keywords: BMC, OpenBMC, Code, Review A global leader in AI server technology is seeking a BMC Firmware Code Reviewer to join their expert engineering team in New Taipei City. This role offers you the opportunity to shape the future of BMC firmware by ensuring alignment with OpenBMC upstream standards and driving quality across all development stages.
What you'll do:
- Design and implement BMC firmware using modern C/C++ and object-oriented principles, ensuring robust architecture and maintainability.
- Drive system-level architectural decisions that align with OpenBMC upstream standards, facilitating seamless integration and future-proofing.
- Author and maintain detailed design documents such as architecture overviews, module interface specifications, and rationales to ensure team alignment and effective upstream communication.
- Serve as the primary technical gatekeeper by reviewing team contributions for code quality, coding standards adherence, and architectural integrity.
- Define and enforce quality guidelines to guarantee upstream-ready submissions while minimising technical debt across projects.
- Apply structured problem analysis methodologies to resolve complex system issues spanning hardware, OpenBMC services, and Linux kernel layers.
- Conduct systematic debugging using oscilloscopes and logic analyzers to perform hardware-software co-validation and isolate root causes at the physical layer.
- Deeply study hardware datasheets, platform specifications (including IPMI, Redfish, DMTF standards), and evolving OpenBMC upstream requirements to guide implementation strategies.
- Engage in technical discussions with upstream maintainers to align on requirements, communicate design proposals effectively, and share problem analysis findings.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure consistent delivery of high-quality firmware solutions.
What you bring:
- 3–5 years of experience in firmware development for server or embedded systems is essential for this role.
- A strong background in OpenBMC or Embedded Linux development is required, including an in-depth understanding of OpenBMC services or Linux kernel drivers.
- Proficiency in C or modern C++ is necessary along with solid experience in object-oriented design principles and firmware architecture planning.
- Hands-on experience with Yocto Project is highly valued; you should be capable of independently developing and debugging across Kernel, Driver, and Application layers.
- Demonstrated ability to analyse core dumps, kernel panics, system crashes, memory leaks, buffer overflows, use-after-free errors, and system logs to isolate root causes is important.
- Ability to read hardware schematics confidently; familiarity with communication protocols such as I2C, SMBus, UART, SPI, JTAG is expected.
- Practical experience using oscilloscopes or logic analyzers for hardware-level debugging and validation is required.
- Skilled operation of GIT version control systems as well as Gerrit code review platforms is needed for efficient workflow management.
- Methodical approach to logical problem solving; patience and persistence are key attributes when isolating complex multi-layered issues.
- Strong commitment to structured technical writing for documentation discipline; proactive attitude towards continuous learning of industry trends is preferred.
- Professional English proficiency (TOEIC 550+ or equivalent) is desirable for effective communication within an international environment.
