What you'll do:

  • Develop and implement embedded firmware solutions for digitally controlled power conversion systems such as DC-DC converters, inverters, and AC-DC converters, ensuring optimal performance.
  • Design control algorithms and integrate them into system architectures, focusing on achieving high efficiency, reliability, and compliance with stringent performance requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to verify that firmware meets all system needs and requirements, fostering a cooperative approach to problem-solving.
  • Participate actively in design validation testing processes, engineering builds including Proto/EVT/DVT/PVT stages, and system integration testing using advanced ATE systems.
  • Optimise firmware through rigorous testing and analysis to ensure robust operation under diverse conditions and seamless integration with hardware components.
  • Contribute to the development of bootloaders and firmware upgrade mechanisms that enable secure and reliable updates across multiple platforms.
  • Implement communication protocols such as UART, SPI, I2C, and CANBUS for real-time data exchange, telemetry, and protocol compliance within complex power systems.
  • Model control systems using MATLAB/Simulink or PLECS to validate designs before implementation, ensuring accuracy and effectiveness.
  • Debug hardware-firmware interaction issues using tools like oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, debuggers (JTAG/SWD), identifying root causes efficiently.
  • Support business travel requirements as needed by project timelines, demonstrating flexibility in working hours to meet critical milestones.

What you bring:

  • Minimum five years of proven experience in embedded firmware development for battery systems such as BBU or UPS, SMPS devices, Pure-Sine Inverters or related industries is essential.
  • Proficiency in C/C++ programming languages specifically for embedded systems and real-time control firmware is required.
  • Solid hands-on experience with MCU/DSP platforms including TI C2000 series, NXP MCX-N family or STM32 microcontrollers is highly valued.
  • Demonstrated ability using MATLAB/Simulink or PLECS software tools for control system modelling and design enhances your suitability for this position.
  • Experience developing Battery Management System (BMS) firmware for multi-cell or high voltage battery packs is advantageous.
  • Expertise debugging hardware-firmware interaction issues utilising oscilloscopes, logic analyzers and debuggers such as JTAG/SWD is expected.
  • Familiarity with common communication interfaces including UART, SPI, I2C and CANBUS for real-time data exchange is important.
  • Experience creating bootloaders as well as implementing secure firmware upgrade mechanisms adds value to your application.
  • Comprehensive understanding of power topologies such as buck, boost, half/full-bridge circuits, LLC resonant converters, PFC modules and inverter technologies is beneficial.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills combined with strong organisational abilities are required; flexibility regarding working hours and business travel is necessary.
