What you'll do:

• Lead and manage a diverse Platform Engineering organisation comprising System Architects, DevOps specialists, Site Reliability Engineers (SRE), and IT Operations professionals.
• Develop and execute the overall platform architecture strategy to ensure scalability, reliability, security, and performance for high-traffic consumer-facing systems.
• Drive best practices in system design including cloud infrastructure management, automation processes, CI/CD pipeline optimisation, monitoring solutions, and incident response protocols.
• Collaborate closely with Product Management, Application Engineering teams, and Business leaders to align technical strategies with organisational growth objectives.
• Mentor, nurture, and retain a high-performing engineering team by fostering an inclusive culture of ownership and continuous improvement.
• Oversee production stability initiatives including disaster recovery planning and enhancement of system resilience for uninterrupted service delivery.
• Champion operational efficiency by implementing advanced observability tools for monitoring and logging across distributed systems.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards for data protection and security throughout all layers of the technology stack.
• Facilitate cross-functional communication between technical teams and non-technical stakeholders to drive consensus on key architectural decisions.
• Continuously evaluate emerging technologies to keep the platform ahead of market trends while supporting rapid user growth.

What you bring:

To excel as Software Engineering Director in this organisation you will bring extensive experience managing large-scale software projects within high-demand environments. Your background should include proven success overseeing cross-disciplinary teams responsible for architecture design, DevOps implementation, site reliability engineering (SRE), and IT operations. You will have demonstrated your ability to build resilient systems capable of handling rapid traffic spikes while maintaining operational stability. • Mandatory: Over ten years’ experience in software engineering roles with at least five years dedicated to people management or engineering leadership within complex organisations.
• Mandatory: Demonstrated hands-on expertise designing and scaling high-traffic software platforms featuring intricate system architectures.
• Mandatory: Proven track record leading cross-functional technical teams including architects, DevOps specialists, SREs, and IT operations staff.
• Mandatory: Deep understanding of cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS; proficiency in containerised environments like Kubernetes; familiarity with infrastructure automation tools such as Terraform.
• Mandatory: Excellent interpersonal communication skills enabling effective collaboration with both technical experts and non-technical business partners.
• Preferred: Experience working with C# / .NET in large-scale production settings is highly valued; however candidates proficient in Go, Java or Python are also encouraged to apply.
• Preferred: Background in consumer-facing platforms such as fintech or e-commerce where high transaction volumes require robust system design.
• Preferred: Experience scaling engineering teams during periods of rapid user acquisition or transaction growth within digital service environments.
• Preferred: Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, configuration management solutions, monitoring tools for observability, logging frameworks for performance analysis.
