What you'll do:

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable RESTful APIs that serve as the backbone for multiple applications and services within the organisation.
• Optimise backend processes and complex data pipelines to ensure maximum performance, efficiency, and reliability across all platforms.
• Write comprehensive technical documentation, create unit tests, and uphold code quality standards to maintain long-term system health.
• Collaborate closely with frontend engineers, QA teams, and product managers to deliver integrated solutions that meet business objectives.
• Support and enhance large-scale data processing pipelines critical for real-time analytics and operational insights.
• Participate in architectural discussions and contribute ideas for improving system scalability, security, and maintainability.
• Troubleshoot issues in production environments by identifying root causes and implementing effective solutions promptly.
• Implement best practices in version control using Git and Git Flow to ensure smooth development workflows across teams.
• Contribute to the adoption of DevOps tools such as CI/CD pipelines for streamlined deployment processes.
• Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies relevant to backend engineering and proactively suggest improvements or new approaches.

What you bring:

• At least 5 years of hands-on experience in backend development with a strong focus on Node.js and Express framework.
• Demonstrated proficiency in designing, building, and maintaining RESTful APIs that support diverse application needs.
• Solid understanding of relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL as well as NoSQL databases like MongoDB.
• Experience writing unit tests and optimising data handling processes for large-scale systems.
• Familiarity with version control best practices including Git and Git Flow for collaborative software development.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams including frontend developers, QA specialists, and product managers.
• Exposure to WebSocket technologies enabling real-time communication between services is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of Redis or message queue systems for efficient data caching or asynchronous processing is considered an asset.
• Understanding of DevOps principles with practical experience using CI/CD pipelines enhances your suitability for this role.
• Previous involvement with cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP as well as distributed system design is advantageous; experience in Retail, E-Commerce, Data Analytics or Finance/Accounting domains is a plus.
