What you'll do:

As a Senior Backend Engineer based in Taipei, you will play a pivotal role in shaping next-generation digital healthcare products designed specifically for the local market. Your day-to-day activities will involve architecting reliable API services using modern frameworks, ensuring rigorous testing standards are met through both unit and integration tests, and optimising data storage solutions across various database platforms. You will be deeply involved in cross-functional collaboration—working hand-in-hand with product managers, designers, frontend developers, and other backend specialists—to deliver cohesive solutions that meet user needs. In addition to hands-on coding responsibilities, you will serve as a key reviewer during design and code review processes, helping elevate overall code quality within the team. By embracing DevOps methodologies and leveraging container technologies like Docker, you will help drive efficiency throughout the software lifecycle. Your contributions will extend beyond technical implementation; you’ll also have opportunities to share insights with peers, propose architectural improvements, and help cultivate an inclusive culture of continuous learning.

• Design and develop robust API services using RESTful or gRPC protocols to support scalable product features tailored for the local market.
• Write comprehensive unit tests and integration tests to ensure code quality, reliability, and maintainability across all backend systems.
• Utilise both relational (RDBMS) and NoSQL databases, including schema design and optimisation for performance and scalability.
• Collaborate closely with project managers, UI/UX designers, frontend engineers, and fellow backend engineers to deliver seamless user experiences.
• Act as a reviewer by participating in design reviews and code reviews, providing constructive feedback to foster continuous improvement within the engineering team.
• Leverage DevOps tools and best practices to streamline development workflows, proactively identifying areas for process enhancement.
• Employ containerisation technologies such as Docker to facilitate efficient development, testing, and deployment cycles.

What you bring:

To excel as a Senior Backend Engineer in this role, you should bring proven experience developing scalable backend systems within agile teams. Your background includes designing APIs using contemporary frameworks like .Net or Node.js while maintaining high standards for code quality through diligent testing practices. You are comfortable navigating Linux environments and automating routine tasks via shell scripts. Your expertise spans both relational databases such as Postgres and NoSQL solutions like MongoDB or Redis. Familiarity with containerisation tools enables you to contribute effectively across different stages of the software delivery pipeline. Ideally, you have explored Golang or are eager to expand your skill set into new languages as needed by evolving projects. A solid grasp of DevOps culture—including automated pipelines—and an understanding of microservices architectures further enhance your fit for this position. Experience working on cloud infrastructure (especially GCP) or orchestrating deployments via Kubernetes would be highly valued. • At least three years of relevant experience in backend engineering roles within fast-evolving technology environments.

• Familiarity with Linux-based development environments along with basic shell scripting capabilities.
• Hands-on experience working with both RDBMS (such as Postgres) and NoSQL databases (such as MongoDB or Redis).
• Practical knowledge of containerisation technologies like Docker for streamlining development workflows.
• Experience or willingness to learn Golang programming language is highly desirable as some mature services are written in Golang.
• Awareness of DevOps principles including CI/CD concepts; familiarity with GitLab CI/CD or GitHub Actions is advantageous.
• Understanding of microservices architecture patterns as well as practical application of message queues (MQ) is beneficial.
• Exposure to cloud platforms such as GCP (preferred), AWS or Azure; experience with Kubernetes orchestration (GKE) is considered a plus.
