Business Development Manager (Japan)
A leading organisation in the e-commerce and SaaS sector is seeking a Sales Manager to join their team in Tokyo, Japan. This role offers you the chance to play a pivotal part in expanding market reach and supporting business development initiatives across Asia. You will be empowered to collaborate with partners, gather valuable market insights, and contribute directly to the success of cross-border business projects.
What you'll do:
As a Sales Manager based in Tokyo, you will immerse yourself in a multifaceted role that bridges sales development, partner management, and marketing support. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve collaborating with colleagues on client engagement preparations, tracking progress against KPIs, and acting as a vital link between internal teams and external partners. You will have the opportunity to shape business strategies by sharing insights gathered from customer feedback while developing your expertise in cross-border commerce through hands-on project involvement. Success in this role comes from your ability to communicate effectively across cultures, adapt quickly to changing environments, and demonstrate genuine enthusiasm for learning about new markets.
- Support the development of potential customers by collecting market information and organising target lists to maximise outreach effectiveness.
- Assist sales colleagues in preparing for client meetings by creating presentation materials and coordinating schedules to ensure seamless interactions.
- Monitor sales activity progress, compile key performance indicators (KPIs), and prepare internal reports that inform strategic decisions.
- Serve as the primary contact point for partners, facilitating communication and providing marketing support to strengthen collaborative relationships.
- Gather feedback and requirements from customers and partners, synthesising insights to share with internal teams for continuous improvement.
- Prepare documentation and presentations related to cross-border business initiatives, gradually building practical expertise in international commerce.
- Contribute to the ongoing refinement of sales strategies by analysing market trends and competitor activities within the e-commerce and SaaS sectors.
- Collaborate closely with marketing teams to align promotional efforts with sales objectives, ensuring consistent messaging across all channels.
- Participate actively in team meetings and training sessions designed to enhance your knowledge of Asian markets such as Taiwan and Hong Kong.
- Maintain accurate records of customer interactions, partner communications, and project milestones to support transparent reporting processes.
What you bring:
The ideal candidate for the Sales Manager position brings proven experience supporting commercial operations within e-commerce or SaaS environments. Your background includes hands-on involvement in sales development or partner management roles where you have demonstrated empathy towards clients’ needs while nurturing collaborative relationships. Your language abilities enable you to connect meaningfully with stakeholders across Japan and other Asian markets. A passion for learning new skills—especially those related to international business—and an adaptable approach are key assets that set you apart. Your academic achievements reflect your commitment to personal growth while your residency status ensures you can contribute fully from day one. By leveraging your understanding of regional trends alongside your interpersonal strengths, you will help drive both team success and organisational growth.
- Minimum 1–3 years of practical experience supporting sales, business development or partner management functions; experience within e-commerce, SaaS or internet industries is highly valued.
- Proven track record in sales development, marketing support, customer success or channel/agency management is considered an advantage.
- Native-level proficiency in Japanese is required; business-level fluency in either Chinese or English will help you excel in multicultural settings.
- Demonstrated initiative combined with excellent communication skills and a strong desire for continuous learning are essential qualities for this position.
- Ability to adapt flexibly to fast-changing work environments while maintaining a positive attitude towards teamwork and collaboration.
- Familiarity with Asian markets such as Taiwan or Hong Kong is highly desirable for contributing valuable regional insights.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher educational attainment is mandatory for consideration.
- Current residency in Japan with valid work visa or permanent residency status is required; support provided for renewal documentation but not new visa applications.
- Experience preparing presentations or documentation for cross-border business projects will help you succeed from day one.
- Commitment to upholding inclusive values within diverse teams while fostering dependable relationships with colleagues and partners.
