Field Engineering Director Salary: Competitive and based on experience Keywords: AI computer vision, manufacturing deployment, team leadership, customer operations, process improvement, global coordination, technical project management, automation solutions A rare opportunity for a Field Engineering Director to join a fast-growing AI company transforming manufacturing through advanced computer vision. You will lead large-scale factory deployments from contract to stable production, manage high-performing field teams, and ensure seamless system integration. This role offers strong ownership, direct access to global leadership, and the chance to drive operational excellence while shaping future product direction.
What you'll do:
As Field Engineering Director, you will take full responsibility for orchestrating large-scale deployments of advanced AI inspection systems within manufacturing environments. Your day-to-day activities will involve close collaboration with both internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure every aspect of deployment runs smoothly—from initial planning through to system stabilisation. You will be expected to build repeatable processes that accelerate time-to-value for customers while also developing your team’s capabilities through ongoing coaching and support. By establishing clear standards for execution and communication, you will help create an environment where your team can excel even under demanding conditions. Additionally, you will play a key role in translating field insights into actionable feedback for product development teams—ensuring that each deployment not only meets immediate needs but also contributes to long-term improvements in technology and service delivery.
- Oversee the end-to-end delivery of technical deployments across numerous manufacturing sites, managing schedules, staffing requirements, readiness assessments, execution phases, and post-deployment stabilisation.
- Drive projects to successful completion by ensuring all acceptance criteria are met, inspections are stable, and there is a clear handover to customer operations teams.
- Develop comprehensive playbooks and standard operating procedures that streamline time-to-production while empowering customers towards greater self-sufficiency.
- Recruit, train, mentor, and manage a high-performing field engineering team composed of applications engineers specialising in vision systems, controls, mechanical engineering, as well as skilled technicians distributed across various regions.
- Establish robust standards for daily and weekly operations including escalation protocols, documentation practices, and quality benchmarks to ensure consistent delivery excellence.
- Coach your team to remain calm under pressure while maintaining effective communication with stakeholders during critical production phases.
- Act as the primary point of contact for customer stakeholders such as process owners, quality managers, automation leads, and factory management throughout each deployment cycle.
- Manage project scope professionally by safeguarding deliverables against scope creep while keeping all parties aligned on objectives and timelines.
- Foster urgency within customer organisations by coordinating resources such as line access and sample parts to prevent delays in deployment progress.
- Design and implement operational infrastructure including onboarding frameworks, training modules, commissioning templates, project dashboards, post-mortem analyses, and continuous improvement initiatives.
What you bring:
To excel as Field Engineering Director in this fast-growing technology company, you will bring substantial experience managing multi-site technical projects within manufacturing environments—ideally involving automation or machine vision solutions. Your background should include hands-on leadership of diverse engineering teams where nurturing talent was just as important as delivering results. You are adept at building trust with customers through transparent communication while maintaining focus on agreed outcomes. Your interpersonal skills enable you to navigate complex stakeholder landscapes with empathy and professionalism. In addition to your technical acumen—particularly around AI-driven inspection or automation—you possess the organisational discipline required for rigorous project tracking alongside the flexibility needed when priorities shift unexpectedly. Fluency in Mandarin is essential given the regional context; strong English proficiency ensures seamless interaction with global colleagues.
- Demonstrated experience leading complex technical deployments across multiple manufacturing sites with proven results in achieving operational stability at scale.
- Exceptional programme or project management skills enabling you to juggle multiple workstreams simultaneously while prioritising tasks effectively for maximum impact.
- Proven ability to recruit, develop, train, and manage high-performing teams—including performance management strategies that foster individual growth within collaborative settings.
- Outstanding communication abilities allowing you to engage confidently with stakeholders ranging from factory floor personnel to executive leadership across global teams.
- High levels of personal responsibility combined with disciplined follow-through; you consistently take initiative to drive projects forward without waiting for direction.
- Fluency in Mandarin coupled with strong English language skills (both written and spoken) essential for effective coordination between local teams and international partners.
