This role is perfect for someone who thrives on collaborating with industry partners and internal teams to deliver robust, efficient, and safe power solutions for servers, IT racks, and data centres. The organisation is committed to fostering a supportive environment where your expertise in power design will be valued and your professional growth encouraged. You will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of high-availability infrastructure, working closely with both vendors and operational teams to ensure that every solution meets stringent safety standards and delivers exceptional performance. With flexible working opportunities and a culture that values knowledge sharing and teamwork, this is an outstanding chance to make a significant impact while enjoying a healthy work-life balance. * Work at the forefront of server and data centre power system design, collaborating with leading ODM/OEM partners to create innovative solutions that drive industry standards forward. * Enjoy a collaborative workplace culture that prioritises knowledge sharing, professional development, and flexible working arrangements to support your personal and career growth. * Be part of a team dedicated to optimising energy efficiency and safety across large-scale IT infrastructure projects, ensuring high availability and reliability for mission-critical operations.

What you'll do:

As Power Design Manager, you will be entrusted with end-to-end responsibility for developing cutting-edge power solutions that underpin critical server infrastructure. Your day-to-day activities will involve close collaboration with both external partners—such as ODMs/OEMs—and internal stakeholders including operations teams. You will guide projects from initial concept through detailed engineering design, ensuring each solution not only meets but exceeds expectations for safety, efficiency, and reliability. By leveraging your deep understanding of rack-level systems—including BBUs, PCSs, UPS units, transformers, and more—you will help optimise every aspect of the data centre’s electrical backbone. Your ability to navigate regulatory landscapes will be crucial in securing timely approvals for new products. In addition to technical responsibilities, you’ll have the opportunity to mentor colleagues and contribute ideas that shape future strategies. Success in this role means delivering robust solutions that keep mission-critical IT environments running smoothly while supporting broader organisational objectives around sustainability and operational excellence.

  • Collaborate with original design manufacturers (ODMs) and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to design and implement advanced server and storage power architectures tailored to evolving industry needs.
  • Lead the development of rack-level power systems by specifying requirements for power shelves, cables, management controllers, and firmware integration to ensure seamless operation within complex IT environments.
  • Partner with vendors to conceptualise and deliver rack-level battery backup unit (BBU) and power conversion system (PCS) solutions that enhance system resilience and uptime.
  • Oversee the application process for safety regulations, working closely with stakeholders to secure timely product introduction approvals while maintaining compliance with all relevant standards.
  • Optimise uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems and transformers within data centre rooms to achieve superior levels of availability as well as energy and space efficiency.
  • Work hand-in-hand with the data centre operations team to refine centre-level power systems, identifying opportunities for improvement in reliability, scalability, and sustainability.
  • Provide technical leadership throughout the project lifecycle, from initial concept through detailed design, testing, validation, and deployment phases.
  • Monitor emerging trends in server power delivery technologies, proactively recommending enhancements or new approaches that align with organisational goals.
  • Mentor junior engineers by sharing your extensive experience in power design best practices, fostering a culture of continuous learning within the team.

What you bring:

The ideal candidate for the Power Design Manager role brings an impressive blend of technical mastery and collaborative spirit. Your extensive background in designing sophisticated server power architectures ensures you are comfortable tackling complex challenges alongside industry-leading partners. You possess not only deep subject matter expertise but also the ability to communicate clearly across disciplines—making you an invaluable bridge between engineering teams, vendors, and operational staff. Your academic credentials underscore your commitment to excellence while your practical experience demonstrates adaptability in fast-evolving technological landscapes. A passion for mentoring others sets you apart as someone who contributes positively to team culture; your guidance helps less experienced colleagues grow their own capabilities. Above all else, your dedication to upholding rigorous safety standards while driving innovation positions you as a trusted advisor whose input shapes both current projects and long-term strategy.

  • A minimum of 12 years’ hands-on experience designing power systems specifically within the server industry is essential for this position.
  • Comprehensive familiarity with voltage regulators (VR), power bricks, rack-level power shelves, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), and overall server power delivery architectures is required.
  • A master’s degree or higher qualification in Electrical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline provides the necessary theoretical foundation for success.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects involving multiple stakeholders—including vendors—and coordinate efforts across diverse technical teams.
  • Proven track record of successfully navigating safety regulation applications for new products within highly regulated environments.
  • Expertise in optimising energy usage and spatial efficiency within data centre settings through innovative transformer and UPS configurations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills enabling effective communication with both technical specialists and non-technical stakeholders alike.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers or team members by sharing best practices in power system design is highly desirable.
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development by staying abreast of emerging trends in server hardware technologies.
