Mechanical Engineer
A leading global technology organisation in Taipei is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join their PC components and system engineering team. This is an exceptional opportunity for you to contribute to the design and development of innovative desktop products, including PC cases and power supply enclosures, while participating in improvement programmes for existing systems. The role offers a unique chance to work alongside knowledgeable professionals in a supportive environment that values your creative problem-solving abilities and technical expertise. You will be empowered to share your ideas, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and see your designs come to life in mass-produced consumer electronics. With flexible working opportunities and access to ongoing training, this position is ideal for someone who is passionate about mechanical design and eager to make a meaningful impact on the future of PC hardware.
What you'll do:
- Assess new product concepts together with the Industrial Design team by reviewing sketches, 3D models, mockups or prototypes, and product requirements documents for technical feasibility, technology readiness, cost viability, and schedule risk.
- Perform comprehensive mechanical engineering and design duties for both new products and improvements to existing products from initial concept through to production.
- Create elegant solutions to a wide range of loosely defined mechanical design issues using practical approaches that balance innovation with manufacturability.
- Collaborate closely with product teams and factory personnel to produce detailed mechanical designs along with all necessary documentation required for creating mockups or prototypes.
- Deliver project milestones in a timely and thorough manner according to established product development schedules under the direction of the product team.
- Design products to meet established specifications while conducting mechanical testing, stress/strain optimisation analyses, motion studies, and build evaluations on CAD models and prototypes together with the Design Quality Engineer.
- Stay up-to-date with advancements in materials science, manufacturing processes, and electro-mechanical mechanisms relevant to desktop PC components.
- Prepare final manufacturing intent designs and deliver them to the manufacturing team for Design for Manufacturing (DFM) review.
- Support quality assurance, product management, and manufacturing teams throughout the entire product lifecycle by addressing design or manufacturing issues, improving quality standards, and reducing production costs.
What you bring:
- Previous experience with consumer electronics or PC components is highly desirable as it demonstrates your familiarity with industry-specific challenges.
- Comprehensive knowledge of mechanical design best practices enables you to implement robust solutions that meet high standards of reliability.
- Proficiency in sheet metal part design, tolerance analysis, and mechanical stack-up ensures your ability to create precise assemblies suitable for mass production.
- Demonstrated ability to perform structural simulations such as Finite Element Analysis (FEA) as well as optical simulation provides valuable insights into product performance under various conditions.
- Experience with Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA), coupled with an understanding of how these principles minimise hand-off time to vendors.
- Familiarity with tooling processes including sheet metal stamping, plastic injection moulding, and die-casting allows you to select appropriate methods for different applications.
- Proven track record managing fabrication vendors or mechanical development partners highlights your dependability in delivering projects on time.
- Gaming or desktop chassis design experience is highly preferred due to its relevance in this sector.
- At least five years’ experience in mechanical design of consumer electronics or computer hardware demonstrates your depth of expertise.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering provides a solid foundation for success; proficiency with 3D CAD software (preferably Creo or SolidWorks) is essential; strong understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) plus PC industry standards is required; familiarity with Asia-based suppliers (Taiwan/Mainland China) is highly advantageous; portfolio showcasing prior work is preferred.
