Senior R&D Manager Location: Taipei, Taiwan An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Research and Development Manager to join a forward-thinking organisation in Taipei, Taiwan. This role is perfect for someone who thrives on nurturing talent, driving technical excellence, and delivering high-quality mechanical products from concept through to mass production. The successful candidate will play a pivotal part in shaping the future of the Mechanical Engineering team, fostering a culture of continuous learning and best practice. With a focus on cross-functional collaboration, you will work closely with internal teams and external partners to ensure seamless integration and manufacturability of innovative products. If you are passionate about leading teams, optimising design processes, and making a tangible impact on product quality and reliability, this position offers an outstanding platform for your career growth. * Take charge of a talented Mechanical Engineering team, guiding them through all stages of product development while promoting best practices and technical growth through training, coaching, and design reviews. * Oversee the entire mechanical design process—from initial concept and 3D modelling to prototyping and mass production—ensuring that every product meets rigorous standards for performance, reliability, and manufacturability. * Collaborate extensively with electrical, firmware, project management teams, as well as external manufacturing partners and suppliers across regions to guarantee efficient production schedules, cost alignment, and exceptional product integration.

What you'll do:

As a Senior Research and Development Manager based in Taipei, you will be entrusted with the responsibility of guiding a skilled Mechanical Engineering team towards achieving technical excellence. Your day-to-day activities will involve not only overseeing the full spectrum of mechanical design but also ensuring that each phase aligns with stringent performance criteria. You will be instrumental in building a collaborative environment where knowledge sharing is encouraged through regular training sessions and constructive feedback during design reviews. By working hand-in-hand with cross-functional teams—including electrical engineers, firmware specialists, project managers—and liaising with external suppliers across different regions, you will help drive projects forward efficiently. Your expertise will be crucial in validating designs using advanced CAD tools while applying DFM/DFA principles to optimise manufacturability. Additionally, your commitment to continuous improvement will see you leading initiatives that enhance reliability and reduce costs. Regularly presenting project progress to management in clear English communication will round out your responsibilities as you contribute significantly to the organisation’s success.

  • Mentor and develop the Mechanical Engineering team by setting clear goals, allocating resources effectively, and providing ongoing guidance throughout each stage of product development.
  • Strengthen the team's technical capabilities by organising training sessions, conducting thorough design reviews, and offering hands-on coaching to foster professional growth.
  • Champion best practices in mechanical design by ensuring robust documentation procedures and strict change control protocols are followed at every step.
  • Supervise all aspects of mechanical design activities including concept creation, 3D modelling, prototyping, and transition to mass production while maintaining high standards for quality and efficiency.
  • Review and validate detailed 2D/3D drawings using industry-standard tools such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or Creo to ensure accuracy and manufacturability.
  • Apply Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles in close partnership with manufacturing teams to streamline production processes.
  • Coordinate with tooling/moulding vendors as well as external manufacturing partners to assess design feasibility, manage costs, and align project schedules for timely delivery.
  • Participate actively in supplier meetings, tooling reviews, pilot run validations, and provide support for communication with factories located in China when necessary.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing design efficiency, reducing costs, and elevating overall product quality through validation testing and corrective actions.
  • Prepare comprehensive project updates, lead design review sessions, and present technical reports to management while ensuring effective communication in English for both internal documentation and external correspondence.
