Sr. Firmware Engineer (Server Power)
Keywords: firmware engineering, power, data center, server A global leader in precision power conversion, measurement, and control solutions is seeking a Senior Firmware Engineer to join their talented team in Taipei.
What you'll do:
- Design and oversee switched-mode power supply projects from concept through completion, ensuring all technical requirements are met with precision.
- Independently perform electrical circuit design—including magnetic and thermal analysis—while collaborating closely with CAD engineers for schematic capture and PCB layout.
- Conduct detailed circuit simulations, calculations, and iterative improvements to optimise performance and reliability.
- Lead failure analysis activities by testing, debugging, identifying root causes, and implementing corrective or preventive actions to maintain product quality.
- Support unit power-up procedures and waveform capture at each stage of design development to ensure compliance with specifications.
- Execute manual and automated test bench work independently to validate designs against customer requirements.
- Prepare comprehensive design documentation including BOM generation, compliance matrices, test plans, design review minutes, and other related materials.
- Review customer specifications and technical documentation thoroughly to align project deliverables with client expectations.
- Source and evaluate components while liaising with suppliers on the development of new semiconductors and integrated circuits for advanced products.
- Participate in conference calls with customers and suppliers to provide technical support for production issues and field problems as they arise.
What you bring:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or a closely related discipline is required for this position.
- 5–10 years of proven experience in embedded or firmware development within server or datacentre product environments is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated proficiency in C/C++ programming for embedded systems—preferably on ARM or x86 architectures—is essential for success.
- Comprehensive understanding of power management systems including power sequencing, voltage regulators (VRs), PMICs, DC/DC converters, and system-level power control is expected.
- Familiarity with hardware interface protocols such as I2C, SPI, SMBus, PMBus, GPIO, UART as well as ADC/DAC interfaces used in board-level control is necessary.
- Solid grasp of server platform architecture encompassing CPU power domains, memory power rails, and system-wide power sequencing is important.
- Knowledge of ACPI standards, SMC principles, and firmware-hardware co-design methodologies will be advantageous.
- Experience implementing power telemetry solutions along with system thermal management strategies and power capping algorithms is preferred.
- Ability to prepare RFQ documents efficiently while keeping material costs under control during project development phases is beneficial.
- Excellent communication skills for effective participation in conference calls with customers and suppliers are required.
